Social media and the internet play a huge role in the lives of our children. Whilst there are some advantages to internet use and being on social media, it isn’t always a positive place to be for some young people. Below are links and information on how we as parents can best support our children as they navigate the online world!

Snapchat

To report someone on Snapchat, open the chat, press and hold the user’s name, tap Manage Friendship, and select Report. You can report for harassment, safety concerns, or spam, and the report is confidential. You can also report specific snaps or profiles by holding down on the content and selecting “Report”

Steps to Report a User Account (In-App)

  1. Open the Chat screen and find the person you want to report.
  2. Press and hold on the Snapchatter’s name.
  3. Tap Manage Friendship.
  4. Tap Report.
  5. Choose the reason for the report (e.g., spam, harassment, inappropriate content).
  6. Submit the report.

Other Ways to Report Content or Accounts

  • Report a Specific Snap: Press and hold on a snap someone sent you, then tap the “Report Snap” button.
  • Report from Search: If you haven’t chatted, search for the user, tap their profile icon, and select the three dots in the corner to find the “Report” option.
  • Underage User: If someone is under 13, you can specifically report them as underage.
  • Safety Issues: If you feel you are in danger, you can report concerns directly through the Snapchat Safety Center.

TikTok

How do I submit a report on TikTok?

To report content, accounts, or messages on TikTok, press and hold the specific item (or tap the share button), select “Report,” and choose the reason. Reports are sent to TikTok’s moderation team to review against Community Guidelines. In-app technical issues can be reported via Settings and Privacy > Report a problem.

How to Report Specific Content

Videos: Tap the Share button or press and hold the video, select Report, select a reason, and tap Submit.

Comments: Press and hold the comment, tap Report, and select a reason.

Accounts: Go to the user’s profile, tap the Share button (top right), select Report > Report account.

Direct Messages (DMs): In the chat, press and hold a specific message or tap the “…” menu to report the conversation.

Important Information

  • Safety Center: You can also report issues via the TikTok Safety Center.
  • Anonymous: Reports are generally anonymous, except if you are reporting a legal violation, such as copyright.
  • Response Time: TikTok aims to respond to reported problems within 48 hours

Roblox

How to actually report someone on Roblox?

To properly report someone on Roblox, use the in-game menu by clicking the Roblox icon, selecting the “Report” tab, choosing the player, and specifying the abuse type. For better moderation, include detailed descriptions, screenshots, or videos of the incident. Reports can also be filed via user profiles.

In-Game Reporting (Best for immediate action)

  1. Open Menu: Click the Roblox icon in the top-left corner.
  2. Report Tab: Click the Report tab (shield icon).
  3. Select User: Choose the player’s name from the list.
  4. Specify Abuse: Select the category (e.g., Inappropriate Language, Cheating).
  5. Add Details: Provide a description of the incident for faster, more accurate moderation.
  6. Submit: Click Submit

Reporting via Profile (Website/App)

  1. Go to the user’s Profile page.
  2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner near their username.
  3. Select Report Abuse.
  4. Follow the prompts to select the abuse type and submit

How do I report someone on WhatsApp?

To report someone on WhatsApp, open the chat with the user, tap the menu (three dots or the contact name), select “More” or scroll down, and tap “Report”. You can choose to report and block the contact, which sends the last five messages to WhatsApp. Reports are anonymous.

How to Report a User

  • Android/iPhone: Open the chat with the individual or group.
  • Tap on the contact name or group name at the top to open their profile.
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Report [Name/Number].
  • Choose to simply report, or Report and block to also prevent them from messaging you.

How to Report Suspicious Messages

If an unknown number messages you, WhatsApp provides direct options within the chat to Report or Block.

What Happens When You Report

  • Information Shared: WhatsApp receives the last five messages sent to you by the reported user or group, along with details about the message type (text, image, etc.) and sender ID.
  • User Notification: The reported person is not notified.
  • Anonymity: Your report is anonymous, and WhatsApp may look into the account to check for policy violations.

Reporting a Group

  1. Open the group chat.
  2. Tap the group name to view the profile.
  3. Select Report, which will prompt you to report and exit the group.

Instagram

How do I report someone on Instagram?

  • To report a post, profile, or message on Instagram, tap the three dots (…) above a post or on a profile, select “Report,” and follow on-screen instructions.
  • Reports are anonymous.
  • For technical issues, shake your phone while in the app or use “Report a Problem” in the settings menu.

  • Report a Post: Tap the three dots (…) above the post > Report > Select the reason.
  • Report a Profile: Go to the profile > Tap the three dots (…) in the top right > Report > Follow prompts.
  • Report a Message/Chat: Open the chat, tap and hold a specific message, tap Report, or tap the person’s name to report the conversation.
