Reading Strategy
What is Reading for Life?
Reading for Life is the final strand of our school’s Reading Strategy. Its aim is to enrich the reading of pupils and expose them to ‘the best that has been thought and said.’ Each year group have carefully chosen texts that represent modern and seminal works to make pupils immerse themselves into the lives and experiences of themselves and others from a range of perspectives. These have increasing challenge in terms of content, language and themes to further develop reading skills and reading habits. These are read together as a shared experience between pupils and teachers. Activities are planned to support teachers and encourage discussions and reflections about the content and message of the texts.
Pupils in Years 7 -10 have twice weekly ‘Reading for Life’ sessions (30 minutes each) to read aloud and share discussions of the books listed below. These books aim to encourage pupils to read for pleasure, accessing books by the same or similar authors from the school library.
