Enrichment - Music

We have a wide variety of enrichment programmes at Longridge High Music Dept, the activities are open to absolutely everyone and all pupils and year groups are welcome to attend.

The different activities you can get involved in are Training Band, School Band, Rock School, Choir, A Capella and the School Production. These groups give performances on a regular basis along with soloists in our concerts and productions. It is a great set of activities to get involved in, you can build your performing skills, make some new friends and increase your confidence!

You can also opt to have lessons on an instrument at LHS, the instruments available are Drum Kit, Guitar, Bass, Singing, Piano/Keyboard, Trumpet/Cornet, Tenor Horn, Trombone, Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone. All our lessons are delivered by highly qualified experts from Broughton Music Academy (www.bmamusic.co.uk). These take place during the school day, and there is a charge for them. However, Pupil Premium students can apply for a discounted rate, please speak to Mr Kershaw if this is the case. Some instruments can be borrowed from school for free if you are having lessons.

Please see below for more information about each of the activities you can get involved in:

Training Band – Monday After School: This group is for beginners on Brass and Woodwind instruments, no experience is necessary. Once you are able to play more confidently, you can graduate up to School Band.

School Band – Wednesday After School: More experienced players of Brass, Woodwind and Percussion instruments can play in the School Band. The band performs at school concerts and events, playing a mixture of popular, film and more traditional music.

Rock School – Tuesday Lunchtime: Guitar, Bass, Drum Kit and Vocals all feature in Rock School. No experience is necessary, you can just turn up and have a go! The band plays a mixture of classic rock and more modern songs, recent examples being Kings of Leon, Lenny Kravitz, James, AC/DC and Guns N Roses. They are a regular feature at our concerts.

Choir – Wednesday Lunchtime: The school choir performs a mixture of pop songs and musical theatre numbers, usually in 2 or 3 part harmony. Recent examples of songs that have been performed at school concerts are “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen, “Helpless” from Hamilton and “All of Me” by John Legend.

A Capella – Thursday Lunchtime: This is our close harmony singing group, usually in 4 parts. More experienced singers tend to be involved, but all are welcome as long as you can hold a harmony line! Usually one of the highlights of the school concerts, recent examples of pieces we have sung are “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling and “Price Tag” by Jessie J. Think Pitch Perfect but not quite as bizarre!

School Production: Every two years the school puts on a major musical production. Pupils from all year groups are involved onstage in lead and chorus roles, backstage doing scenery and props or operating sound and lighting equipment. In recent years we have produced Grease, Bugsy Malone, Beauty and the Beast and this year Matilda. These productions are great fun to get involved with, and there are many students who can be seen on and offstage!
